Day 1 - Day 1: Colombo → Bentota

Colombo → Bentota

Your journey begins with a comfortable pick-up either from Colombo city or directly from Bandaranaike International Airport. This allows you to start your trip stress-free and immediately head towards Sri Lanka’s southern coast.



Mount Lavinia Beach

The first stop is at Mount Lavinia, a charming coastal town known for its colonial heritage and golden beach. The location is perfect for photography, offering panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and the historic Mount Lavinia Hotel, which has a story tied to colonial Ceylon.



Panadura / Wadduwa Beach

As you continue your drive along the scenic coastline, you will pass through Panadura and Wadduwa. These coastal stretches offer beautiful views of the ocean, fishing villages, and quiet palm-fringed beaches. It’s a relaxing way to soak in the natural beauty of Sri Lanka’s southwest coast.



Kalutara Bodhiya & Richmond Castle

In Kalutara, you will visit the famous Kalutara Bodhiya, a striking Buddhist temple with a large white stupa located beside the Kalu Ganga River. Nearby, Richmond Castle is another highlight – a colonial mansion built in the early 20th century, featuring Indo-Saracenic architecture, intricate designs, and lush gardens. Both places reflect the cultural and historical richness of the region.



Bentota

After the stops, the journey continues with a scenic coastal drive towards Bentota. This area is renowned for its pristine golden beaches, calm lagoons, and luxurious resorts. The road trip itself offers a wonderful introduction to Sri Lanka’s southern beauty. Upon arrival in Bentota, you will check in to your resort. Most resorts are located by the sea, offering direct beach access and excellent facilities for relaxation. The afternoon is kept free for you to unwind. You may choose to relax by the resort’s pool, enjoy the sun on the golden sands, or take a refreshing dip in the ocean. This downtime is designed to help you settle into the pace of the holiday.



Bentota River Safari

In the evening, you will experience a boat safari on the Bentota River. This is one of the highlights of the area, where you cruise through mangroves and waterways while spotting birdlife, water monitors, and sometimes crocodiles. The safari also provides a close-up look at the region’s unique river ecosystem.



Day 2 - Day 2: Bentota → Hikkaduwa → Balapitiya → Kalutara

Your day begins with breakfast at the hotel before setting off towards Hikkaduwa, a lively coastal town on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. Known for its vibrant beaches and underwater attractions, Hikkaduwa is a perfect destination for relaxation and adventure.



Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery

On the way, you will stop at the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, one of the most important conservation projects in the region. Here, you can learn about the efforts to protect endangered sea turtles, see baby turtles being nurtured before release, and gain an understanding of marine life preservation.



Hikkaduwa Beach

Arriving at Hikkaduwa, you can enjoy a variety of beach activities. The golden sandy beach is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and simply relaxing under the sun. It is one of the most famous beach destinations in Sri Lanka and attracts both locals and travelers with its vibrant atmosphere. A highlight of Hikkaduwa is its coral sanctuary. You will take a glass-bottom boat ride to explore the coral reefs and admire the underwater world without needing to dive. Through the glass panels, you can spot a variety of colorful tropical fish and other marine life, making it a memorable experience.



Balapitiya

After enjoying Hikkaduwa, you will head to Balapitiya, another scenic coastal area, for an afternoon adventure. The drive is short and pleasant, offering views of palm-fringed beaches and small fishing villages along the way.



Madu River Safari

In Balapitiya, you will embark on a Madu River Safari, one of the most popular eco-experiences in Sri Lanka. Day 3 - Day 3: Kalutara → Colombo

Brief Garden (Bevis Bawa’s garden paradise) near Bentota

Before leaving the Bentota area, you can visit Brief Garden, the famous landscaped garden created by Bevis Bawa. This garden is renowned for its artistic layout, vibrant tropical plants, sculptures, and serene pathways. It is a peaceful stop that blends art, nature, and architecture beautifully. After exploring Brief Garden, you will begin the drive back to Colombo. Kalutara Bodhiya

On the route, you will stop at Kalutara Bodhiya, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic Buddhist temples. This riverside stupa is known for its large white dome and tranquil surroundings. Visitors often take a moment to admire the architecture and experience the spiritual atmosphere.



Richmond Castle (Kalutara)

Shopping & leisure time in Colombo

Upon reaching Colombo, you have free time for shopping and exploring the city’s commercial areas. Popular shopping destinations include ODEL (fashion and lifestyle), House of Fashion (clothing and accessories), Laksala (handicrafts and souvenirs), and Pettah Market (local street market experience). If time allows, a brief city tour of Colombo can be included. You may visit Galle Face Green, an oceanfront promenade perfect for photography and relaxation; Independence Square, a historic monument surrounded by shaded gardens; and Gangaramaya Temple, a unique Buddhist temple blending traditional and modern architecture. The itinerary concludes with drop-off at your Colombo hotel or Bandaranaike International Airport, marking the end of your 3-day coastal journey.
